We are very excited to announce that Making Waves Boatel has been recognized as a recipient of the TripAdvisor® GreenLeaders program. The program is about acknowledging conscientious and socially responsible members of the hospitality industry for their green practices. The recognition is given only to qualifying businesses worldwide who have met the program requirements of environmentally friendly practices. All recipients have to meet the programs minimum requirements including having a towel and linen re-use program, using energy-efficient light bulbs, tracking energy usage, recycling, and educating staff and guests on green practices.
Receiving the TripAdvisor GreenLeader recognition is a source of great pride for us, especially as the first Bed and Breakfast in Toronto to receive this distinguished recognition. It is a symbol of our commitment to protecting our environment and education our guests on green practises. This is not just an award but rather a lifestyle commitment of green living and conservation practises that we live by.
Re-using, Reducing and Recycling is foremost in our day to day business of running a bed and breakfast in Toronto. For example a few years ago we move to biodegradable products in wall mounted dispensers and go
t rid of all of those small shampoo and soap bottles that so often end up in the landfills. We encourage our guests to use our biodegradable soaps and shampoo that we provide. We find that our guests want to contribute to the conservation and preservation of the environment so they are happy to comply. As GreenLeaders in the hotel industry we would like to encourage our fellow innkeepers to adopt the same practices and send a message to hotel suppliers that they need to provide green solutions that meets the needs of social conscience travelers.
When selecting GreenLeaders, TripAdvisor uses an in-depth process to evaluate hotel and bed 
and breakfasts in various areas of green sustainable practices to determine the honorees and their ranking. TripAdvisor® developed the program by working with national and international green industry experts including the US Green Building Council’s LEED Certification Program, the United Nations Environment Program, the US Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR program, and other sustainability experts.
