National Ballet Dance and Fitness Classes

National Ballet dance schoolThe National Ballet of Canada opened up its doors to their beautiful facilities in September 2013 with a new program called In Studio, which offers dance and fitness classes to all levels. All classes take place in the stunning studios at The Walter Carsen Centre on Queens Quay, just west of Spadina Ave just across from the Boatel in downtown Toronto.  With a desire to reach out to the community and offer dance and fitness classes, In Studio is hoping to build a following of dance and fitness enthusiasts as well as absolute beginners wanting to learn a new way of moving.

Not only does In Studio offer drop in dance classes for former dancers and dance students, they also offer classes for those that have never stepped foot in a dance studio before. They wanted to create a welcoming and inviting atmosphere to encourage novice dancers and movers to try this beautiful art form. Since introducing In Studio, our beginner level classes have flourished and students can’t get enough.

The DanceFit classes offer participants an efficient yet fun and creative workout. Who knew standing at a barre and doing a few simple leg movements could be so physically challenging? Barre fitness and dance fitness classes are becoming increasingly popular in the National Ballet of Canadafitness community. What with popular television shows such as ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, there has been a spark in interest for dance based fitness classes. The DanceFit classes are fun, easy to follow, but also physically challenging. Some benefits of barre and dance fitness classes include strengthening the entire body, increased joint mobility, improved bone density as well as balance and coordination. DanceFit classes also require mental engagement, which emphasizes the mind body connection which can be lacking in generic gym routines. Each instructor at In Studio is highly experienced, and feels it is integral for each student to get individual attention in every class. The accompanists find delight in having the opportunity to accentuate the atmosphere in their classes with their music.
